Two Museums and a Nap

I met my sister and the kids at 11:15. I showed up a little late, knowing by this time the kids would be seated and have food in their mouths. I figured there was no way they could bombard me with questions if they were eating.

Shortly after I sat down with my smoothie, they approached. 8th graders think they are quite sly. They didn't walk over. They meandered over. Then it's like opps, we landed at your table. Who are you? Giggle, giggle, giggle. Oh my god, you look alike! Giggle, giggle, giggle. Yup, everything I said, they said, or my sister said made them giggle.

Time to walk over to the Holocaust Museum. We all go outside the Ronald Reagan Building. My sister is responsible for eight students. There are probably like 70 there. I am so worried some have been left behind. My sister, not worried. She is a pro. I ask if they count off. One of her students overhears me, and thinks this is a great idea. We don't count off though. It's not necessary, the eight kids are there. The other teachers have all their kids, and we walk down the street, across the mall, to the museum.

Highlights of the rest of trip: one student tells my sister and I, our braces were different. ???? To that I say, my antique braces looked just like the braces you have kid! Kids these days, ugh! (I feel old now.)

I learn that one girl really likes "games", i.e. the interactive offerings at the museums. I overheard her tell a friend that she found part of the museum "fun" because it was interactive. I am guessing it was a portion with individual informational screens. Too cute.

The Air and Space Museum was ehh. First off, I have had this dang cork screw in my bag for months now. I keep meaning to give it to our friends in Buffalo next time we visit. (We had borrowed it. My mother-in-law does not keep a drop of alcohol in her house. So we brought wine. It was Thanksgiving!) Anyway, I have been through numerous airports with this cork screw, and it get confiscated at the dang museum! Unbelievable.

The kids liked walking around and the simulators. My sister and I sat and talked. Yeah, the planes are cool. We would rather be at an art museum though.

Needless to say, I needed a big nap after all that excitement, and walking.

Tomorrow, more museums, and more kids. I have learned the names of the four girls. Tomorrow I will learn the names of the four boys. Maybe the teacher will have a special award for me if I get all eight names right.
