The promise of mild mid-Atlantic winters was one of three reasons I moved down here. The other two reasons, love and professional growth. One out of three ain't bad, right? Maybe...
I have been finding other things to replace the unfulfilled promises. Like instead of finding my dream job, I am searching for a dream house to put those dream children in (two girls). Neither one of those dreams are panning out for us, but hey, at least I have power over these things. We could buy a house. It might not be in the five block radius I am determined to live in, but it would be a house. And the children will happen, someday. Until then, we will spoil the two cats. They don't seem to mind the extra attention.
The weather though... ehh. What really pisses me off about all this snow is that nothing is done to take care of it. Stores are closed. Roads are impassable. It's like the 1930s all over again. I know what you are thinking. They don't have the equipment, blah, blah, blah. Well, I am certain they have equipment in our neighboring states (PA, CT, NJ). And I am certain there are a few guys (and girls) out there that would love to make a few bucks.
I mean we do live in DC. The Nation's Capitol. I keep hearing about how great it is. If what happens here is so great, why is it alright to just shutdown productivity for three plus days?
We didn't even try people! I live nine blocks from the Capitol. We saw a plow Saturday night and then again just last night. Unbelievable. I can visualize the people in charge throwing up their arms and just saying "screw it".
So this is my suggestion: government employee swap. Just like wife swap, but instead we take someone from the Department of Safety in DC and put them in let's say, New Hampshire. And then put their equivalent and put this person in DC. The person who comes to DC better bring Pumpkin Ale. They will need it.
