School is in session, and that means the campaigns to raise money for cheerleading, the travel soccer team, and the school library are in full swing.
A friend just posted on Facebook that his son is selling popcorn for his Boy Scout troop. Did you know you can now purchase the FAMOUS Boy Scout microwave popcorn online? Amazing! So now I can support the Boy Scout troop in Hopkinton, New Hampshire right here in DC.
Girl Scout cookies are the obvious favorite. We buy about two cases. Yes, it is a little much. They make great gifts though, and they freeze well. And if we're ever invited over for an impromptu gathering at a friend's house, we'll grab a bottle of red wine and a box of cookies. The cookies are fun and unexpected. I don't know anyone who doesn't crack a smile when presented a box of Thin Mints.
So when you're thinking about what to put in gift baskets for Christmas or a hostess gift, look no further than your best friend's eight year old son or daughter.
And to all those parents trying to figure out just who to hit-up for yet another fundraiser, go to your friends without kids! Yes, those of us without kids are often overlooked. I'm speaking for myself (and Craig), but we enjoy your children and love helping out a good cause!

Welcome to Hamilton House
I have coveted the Tiffany keys for some time now. I think they'd be the perfect addition to so many outfits; and with so many different choices, you're sure to find a key that fits your personal style.
The Hamilton House key (Fleur de lis key) is available in store and online for $225.
I love the Vintage Oval key. This key is bit shorter than the key
worn by S and B, a quarter inch shorter to be exact. So be sure to check out the length of each individual key. The shortest key is 1 inch and the longest is 2.5 inches. The keys are made in several different metals including: white gold, yellow gold, silver, and platinum. And for a little sparkle, you can choose from keys adorned with diamonds and gemstones. Don't have a Tiffany & Co. store in your neighborhood? Shop the store online and enjoy free shipping for any orders over $300.
*Keys are best paired with a martini and your bestie. ;)

A Transitional Piece
The weather is getting cooler, and out from your closet come your trusty pea coat and fleece. STOP!
Why do we do this to ourselves every, single, fall? We start wearing jackets just as soon as the temperature drops below 50, and by January we're bored and irritated with our cold weather garb. What we need are some great transitional pieces we can get excited about.
One great transitional (or transforming!) piece I am loving for fall is the faux fur vest. Vests can instantly change the look of an outfit and keep you warm on those brisk fall days. And faux fur is the latest and greatest trend! I am seeing fur vests, jackets, and even fur in boots and booties. Normally I wouldn't do "fake", but there's just no way I could wear rabbit or fox pelt. It gives me the creeps just thinking about it.

Here are some options:
From Juicy Couture, this shorter version sweetens the deal with a pretty bow. I would wear this with a white button down and jeans or a long sleeve dress and OTK boots. ($228, available at Piperlime.com)
On Zappo
s.com you can find several different versions of the faux fur vest, just type in "faux fur" in the search field. I love this Michael Kors vest in Tipped Fox. (Don't tell my husband, but I have this vest in my closet!)
The picture online does not do this vest justice. The coloring is really pretty and the lining is gorgeous. It's a little more casual than the Juicy Couture vest, which makes it more versatile. So you'll look super chic headed into the office, and turn heads while
picking out the perfect pumpkin at the local orchard. ($13o, available at Zappos.com)
Maybe you want to try the trend, but you don't feel like shelling out a lot of cash. Then this cropped version by Old Navy is for you.
Wear it with a loose fitting blouse (I really like the one pictured) and skinny jeans or leggings for date night, or wear it over a super cool tee tucked into wide leg jeans with a funky belt and platform clogs and you'll be way too-cool-for-school. ($29.50, available at Old Navy and Old Navy.com)

A Hair Trick
Do you straighten your hair with a hot iron? Did you know you can create loose waves/curls with it too?
It is really super easy. I am going to try my best to explain this very easy process. For starters, you will need to use a straightener with plates that are one inch or smaller.
Using a small section of hair, wrap the bottom three or so inches of your hair around one of the plates of your straightener. While loosely clamping the straightener down--you want just enough tension to keep the hair in and make the heat work, pull the section of hair down and through the straightener. Viola! You've got yourself a new, sexy do!
The concept is sort of difficult to narrate. So if my directions aren't great, experiment with the idea and your straightener. I'm sure you'll come up with a great method that works for you!

Gossip Girl
The first episode of the season was last night, and the girls and boys did not disappoint!Serena and Blair had on some great outfits. Blair traded in her signature headband for a tres chic hat. The whole mis-matchy, but goes together Parisian look looked great on S. I can not wait to see what these two are wearing next week.
Two major upsets--Lonely Boys baby drama and Chuck's "new" identity. First off, Lonely Boy, or should I say Loser Boy, is a complete idiot. You are really going to believe Milo (what a perfectly crunchy name) is your baby boy? Word of advice boys, if you didn't see the lady pull out a hair from your head or swab your mouth, get your own test done. What is heck is crazy Georgina up to now?
And Chuck really can't remember who he is, and his Am Ex cards weren't turned off? I am thinking that when you wake up and you talk like an American, you're not going to think you're European. And Chuck, get a new credit card company. By the looks of the preview, this story will develop more next weak, I mean week.
I love that Fashion's Night Out was incorporated. Also loved Lily's hair. It was pulled back an interesting woven bun.
One last thing: Katie Cassidy??? Why weren't we given more notice of this?

The First Step to a Great Fall
The weather has been a little chilly in DC, cool enough to wear a sweater at night. We can't really dress for fall though when the daytime temps are still in the 80s! Yes, the weather is gorgeous!
I am dying to put on a pair of skinny jeans with OTK boots. I think I'll have to wait another month though. Until then, I plan on showing my fall spirit on my nails. Last week I took off the pale pink color from my last pedicure and put on a great taupe color from OPI I picked up last fall--You Don't Know Jacques.

Hello, Love
I'm back!
So this summer was a little bit zany with the house and all. When I wasn't sweating (the ac was down for a week... in JULY!), I was swearing like a sailor. Installing a new faucet seemed like a relatively easy project, until all those things that are suppose to come apart, didn't.
September couldn't come soon enough, and I am finding all sorts of wonderful things to keep myself entertained--fall fashion, fall television, and fall beer. We've got a lot of ground to cover.
Let's start with television. A friend shared with me this great site, The Futon Critic. The site is like a virtual tv guide. I love the fact that you can easily see what's on during prime time. Fantastic!
I am looking forward to Gossip Girl, of course. The new season starts this Monday. I wonder what wonderful things Serena and Blair brought back from Paris! I'm very curious to see if Blair ditches the headbands. I sure hope not! I love headbands.
One show you will not see on Futon Critic, but is a must record, is Friday Night Lights! ABC Family is now airing old episodes of Friday Night Lights Monday through Friday at 6pm. If you have never seen an episode, you have to start watching now. I promise you will find it entertaining. Even if you don't love football, you'll fall in love with those southern accents and Coach and Principal Taylor-- the cutest couple on television!
